Isle of Man Swimming Association: Synchro-trials

The Isle of Man is to have a National Synchro Team! Trials will be held at the end of October. We will be looking for swimmers for duet routines or, if there is enough interest, teams of between 4 and 8 swimmers.

Competitive synchro swimmers must be extremely fit, and completely at home in the water. They must be strong yet graceful, interested in music sufficiently to be able to choose and interpret pieces of routines, and have stamina and determination. As such a good background in swimming is a necessity, and some kind of background in either dancing or gymnastics is preferable but not essential.

In order to achieve the standard needed for competition, swimmers must have a high aerobic capacity; therefore an amount of distance work is required. Other sessions are devoted to working on 'figures' - the set body positions and transition movements which form the basis of synchro.

In addition, sessions will be available to spend working on routines, perfecting movements, developing the choreography of the routines etc.

Land work sessions include working on flexibility, strength and weight training, also creating, walking through and learning routines, listening to music and so on.

Synchro may once have been laughed at but is now accepted internationally as a spectator sport, being one of the first events to sell out at the Olympic Games!

So, if you are interested in trying out or if you just want to know more please pass on your details to Max as soon as possible.
