ISLAND GAMES

Congratulations to Southern's Dane Harrop and Andrew Cowley on being selected to represent the Island at the Xth Natwest Island Games in Guernsey this summer. Dane will be making his 6th appearance at the Island Games and has the honour of captaining the men’s team. Dane will be swimming in the 50m, 100m & 200m backstroke, 100m butterfly and the relays. Andrew will be making his Island Games debut and has been selected for the 200m IM and 100m freestyle. He also hopes to be selected for the freestyle relay squad. We wish them both the best of luck and are sure they will represent the club and the Island well.

JUNIOR GALA 20 MAY 2003

Would all prizewinners of trophies at last years Junior Gala please return the trophies to the club as soon as possible, either to the desk or directly to Christine Cowley (851653). Thank you.

OFF ISLAND SWIMS

Any swimmer who intends to swim off island should note the following:

  • Any swimmer who goes away to swim in an "open competition" must be registered. Forms are available from our Hon Secretary, Mrs Wendy Hill (Telephone 835646). The cost of registration is £18.00.
  • Any swimmer who swims off island in an open competition can apply to the club for £20.00 toward their travel costs. The club will pay any entry fees but any swimmer who withdraws on the day will have to pay back the same to the club.
  • It is anticipated that our new National Coach, Max Stewart will encourage our swimmers to participate across the water and hope the above information will help. Please do not hesitate to contact Ian Harrop if you require any more information.

Stop Press. Max Stewart has confirmed that he will be taking a party of younger swimmers to a meeting in Leeds on Saturday 12 July 2003. Further details should be available soon.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 23 June 2003

The Annual General Meeting will be held at 7.30pm on Monday 23 June 2003 at the IOM Yacht Club, Port St Mary. We would like to see as many parents and older swimmers attend as possible. We have had several resignations from the committee during the last year and would like to fill these vacancies at the AGM. We would particularly welcome any parents of younger swimmers to join the committee and if you would like to know what is involved with committee work please see our Secretary, Wendy Hill for an informal chat.

PRIZE PRESENTATION, SATURDAY 19 JULY 2003

Will parents please note that the club will only be taking official age group photographs at the presentation this year, that is, all the swimmers in the age group and not just the winners. The first three in each event, and in the overall age group, will still receive certificates and medals and parents may want to bring along a camera to take their own photographs.

COMPETITION SECRETARY

Ann Hopwood, our long serving Competition Secretary, resigned earlier this season but is still helping on poolside. The club would like to extend our thanks to Ann for her many years of service on the committee and as competition secretary. The role was taken over by Ruth Crellin but Ruth has also had to resign and we are grateful to Mark Gorry and Simon Hartley who have taken over until the end of the season. Brian Cowley (Telephone 851653) has kindly offered to maintain the database of personal bests for each swimmer so please let Brian know if they are any errors on the spreadsheet displayed at the pool.
