Manx Youth games swimming training sessions are continuing with coaches reporting good attendance and hard work at all sessions writes Phil Salmon.
There is still some space at the Ramsey sessions (Sundays, 16:30-17:30) and Southern (Mondays 19:00-20:00) sessions. Unfortunately the Douglas sessions, held at the NSC, are full.
Pisces Swimming club for the Disabled are looking for an additional swimming teacher. The individual must be ASA full swimming teacher qualified. The session is on a Monday night at Glencrutchery Pool, Douglas, 18:30-20:30. Training and support will be available.
Swimmers are training hard in all squads toward the Lloyds TSB Distance championships to be held on Saturday, February 22 at the NSC. All events swum this night are part of the NatWest Island games programme so a lot of swimmers will be working hard to achieve consideration times. The only event being swum that night not on the Island games programme is the 100m IM. Good luck is wished to all.
Time trials were held recently for 50m backstroke, 50m freestyle, 100m individual medley and a 200m choice. Full results are posted on the website - details in this column next week.
A questionnaire from the Island coaches has been circulating squads requesting short term and long term goals along with personal bests. If you haven't received a form contact Phil or Terri at any squad session.
A host of birthdays are happening around this time with Niall Shimmin celebrating his 14th (incidentally Niall's time for the 1,500m freestyle should have read 19:25.07 not the world record breaking time of 9:25.07 as stated in last week's Poolside), Conor Doyle will be 13 while Siobhan Walshe is 12. Any birthday celebrations can be emailed for inclusion in this column along with any poolside news.
