Galas: Southern ASC v Thirsk White Horse ASC

Southern (IOM) ASC are taking a team of approx 30 swimmers to North Yorkshire 12-14th December for a Christmas Swim-Meet against Thirsk White Horse ASC.

Based in the beautiful village of Thirsk better known for its resident vet, James Herriot of All Creatures Great and Small fame. This should be quite an event with many Southern Swimmers representing thier club away from home for the very first time and hopefully not the last.

The team consists of our Island Games and Commonwealth Games swimmer Dane Harrop who will be travelling up to Thirsk from his home in Liverpool to swim for his Club and the other great news is that Peter Sheath formally Club Captain at Southern will also be swimming for us in Thirsk returning from his Music College in London in time to compete for us.

To complete the threesome is our resident Team Captain and Island Swimmer Andrew 'Ginger Rocket' Cowley. The ladies also representing the club are Island sqaud swimmers Becky Hindle (now recovered), Mel Cubbon, Alice Hartley, Katie Hill and the latest members of Island Squad Vicky Kosh and Catherine Breed.

John Sheath, father and mentor of the Sheath family, will be travelling with the team to present the winning club with the Bradford & Bingley Challenge Trophy and the runners up 'Quiache' both kindly donated by Bradford and Bingley International (IoM). Our Team will be escorted by: Ian Harrop, Simon Hartley, Jacqui Kelly, Melenie Breed, Debbie Wignal, Cath Moore, Peter Sheath and Ann Hartley.

We expect this to be a very close match and results will be posted to the site the week after we return. Good luck to all our swimmers and last but not least a great big Thank You to Peter Fish and Thirsk White Horse ASC for all their help in setting up this fantastic event and also many thanks for the Christmas party after the meet at Thirsk Racecourse.

Southern SC look forward to a return meet in June/July 2004.
