This weekend sees the Lloyds TSB 100 metre league match writes Phil Salmon. This match will be held at the NSC in Douglas. Warm up will be 17:30 for an 18:15 start.
The event will be age on the day with age groups: 11 and under; 13 and under; 15 and under and open. As the name suggests all races will be held over four lengths and should provide some exciting racing with the opportunity for some of the youngsters to register a 100 metre time for the first time or attempt to improve on their personal bests while Lloyds TSB National squad swimmers will be making an attempt at Island games consideration times. Fencibles don't take part in this event so the match will be between Southern, Ramseian and Douglas to see who can lift the Jones Family 100m league match trophy.
The only exception will be the 11 and under butterfly as swimmers in this age group swim only 50 metres fly. There will be a cannon relay at the end which will be a 8 x 100m freestyle and should prove exciting with the lead changing several times before the finish! Good luck to everyone involved.
Results of the recently held time trials (2002) are available for download. Times were recorded for 50m backstroke and freestyle, 100m butterfly and 200m choice stroke.
The closing date for entries to the Lloyds TSB Bank National Swimming Championships 2003 is Saturday, February 1. Forms are obtainable from clubs or squad sessions. The entry form for the distance championships include the mens 16 and over 1500m freestyle, bearing in mind we do have some younger swimmers in national squad who would like the opportunity to achieve a time, perhaps a games consideration time, it has been agreed that, providing they contact me to discuss the issue, we will make exceptions.
